Air Print for Shared Printers [non HP Printers]…
Refer MacFormat Issue 230, page 72, a magic work around:
Laurence, I thought you would be very interested in the following tip which, like magic, enables iMac shared printers to support Air Print from iPhone, Ipod Touch, and iPad…
This script, courtesy Kay Marczoch, allows Shared Printers on iMac to Air Print just fine from iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Like a little bit of magic…
Go to System Preferences and remove your existing printer(s)
Launch AppleScript editor…
Cut & Paste the following 2 lines:
do shell script “echo ‘# enable AirPrint
image/urf urf (0,UNIRAST)’ > /usr/share/cups/mime/airprint.types” with administrator privileges
Run that script and enter your admin password when requested.
This will create a text-file in /usr/share/cups/mime/ that will enable AirPrint support on OS X 10.6.6, (and on build OS X 10.6.5 10H574)
[Note the script can easily be removed at any time].
Restart, then…
Add the printer(s) again, and share them through System Preferences.
On OS X 10.6.6, my Epson Stylus TX400 was automatically added on restart.
